Anyone experienced the Brake-Assist yet? Holy Crap!

I had the brake-assist kick in for the first time today. O.M.G. It's like someone slams your brake pedal with a sledge hammer. Quite violent.

I was applying, let's say 50% brake pressure on the pedal and was confident it was enough. The reason being that I'd seen why the car nearest to me in front was stopped. It was because a car in front of him had stopped, waiting to turn into a side street across traffic. So I see that first car turn off, and I see the car between him and me take off the brake lights and start to move away. So I was happy, as I said, with my braking amount. But the MB computers (a) didn't know that the 1st car had turned, (b) didn't know the 2nd car had released the brakes and was just starting to move away. I never got even within 3 car lengths of that car (and this was all at 30mph), so it was all a false positive.

But wow, it's certainly a big surprise. Not what you might imagine brake-assist to be, perhaps just an imperceptible extra amount of pressure on the pedal. No no no. Violent it is, and it happens with what sounds like a relay or solenoid clicking in.

Current car: E500 4Matic Estate/Wagon: Dark Grey/Black.

Yeah, took me about 12 years of driving the cars with the option before I experienced it work and I was glad it did

If it comes as an unexpected, perhaps unnecessary, assist that startles the crap out of you, it might be viewed as a violent shock. If it saves a collision, it could be a lifesaver.

Perhaps yours could be checked, d4005, to determine if it went off prematurely and unnecessarily?

When out on the road, it's always best to watch out for Pot holes, Sink holes, and those other Holes!

It saved me from smacking a bike rider that crossed the road without looking and holy s*#t was it impressive. I missed the rider, went back home and changed my shorts and carried on with my day.

My experience with standard BAS comes from me stepping hard on the brake and then slowly letting off because I overbraked to begin with, but the car keeps slowing.

Go figure, I experienced the exact same reactions as you did yesterday and today.. Yesterday I was in heavy bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway slowly rolling along it felt and I'm sure to my fellow car pedestrians it looked as if I were bunny hopping along somewhat stalling hop lol and today while at the traffic lights the light had turn green and those at the front line had got through but the car in front of me and myself had not so we slowly moved up to the traffic line and again I made my way up bunny hopping must of looked hilarious to the folks to the side of me.. I feel your pain.

It should not do that. BAS only kicks in with a very sudden and hard hit on the brake pedal.
You and I have the same basic brakes. Mine use bigger rotors and calipers, but the SBC system should not be acting that way.
