Given the added layer of safety added and the ease of disconnecting the battery, why would you *not* disconnect it?
This also prevents you from making a mistake, such as putting in the key so you can adjust the seat for a more comfortable working position for reinstallation. Lots of things can happen that you don't anticipate, so the best practice is to disconnect the battery.
Good luck and enjoy the new wheel.
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
