Hi all, first i'll have to admit, I've been a long time lurker, just reading these interesting topics, looking at pictures of all your nice cars, not much to contribute since I don't have a Benz but learning a lot. I think I know a lot more about cars then I ever did thanks to you all.
Heres my story, I've never bought a car from a dealer before, all my cars have usually been from private sellers and cheap but figure it was time to step it up a bit so I searched high and low and finally came across a Benz I instantly fell for, a 013 C300 with the AMG kit and only 15k on it. Saw the carfax the dealer provided, everything checked out with the guarantee, clear title and had it checked by a indy and everything checked out there as well. Got the financing, got the insurance, left the deposit just needed to bring my pay stub in the next day. Here's where it gets tricky, figure I call a random dealer to check the remaining warranty on the car and to my surprise they said it was VOID and wouldn't give me a reason just told me to call customer service, did that and was told that the car had salvage on it, but wouldn't give me more details till I sent them proof of ownership.. wtf.
Called the dealer, he claims to have no idea about any salvage and again showed me a clear title, claims if a vehicle is salvage there is no way for them to have a clear title. So on one hand Carfax shows absolutely clear everything, ran a autocheck, shows a title and odometer issue, the dealer has a clear title and Benz says it was salvage.
I'm sure most are going to say just find another, but believe it or not, it's not easy finding the right car, with options, price, color, etc its a completely exhausting. I prob will just skip it but I'm kind of wondering if it might be worth it? Perhaps haggling the price the bit (was paying 26k for it), mayb asking for a 3rd party warranty? However the dealer did say they would cover bumper to bumper for a year but still, it's not the same as factory. Anyways, just thought I add this complicated topic to the history of these forums and in return perhaps get some interesting input from some of the vets on here.
