Missing model number

I am considering buying a used C300 (2012) and it has a clean CarFax but the C300 model number is missing from the trunk - not a sign of one ever being there. I tend to think the car was damaged and has a new or repaired trunk, but are there other possibilities? I know it should show up on Carfax but if it didn't go through insurance it wouldn't be reported.

There are those who don't like badging on their vehicles, preferring what they might call a "cleaner" look.

These days, most model badging, etc. is simply held on with adhesive and can be removed fairly simply with carefully applied heat. Once the badge is removed, any adhesive residue is also easily removed.

If you're lucky, the original or previous owner may have even left the badging safely tucked in the glovebox or trunk.

When out on the road, it's always best to watch out for Pot holes, Sink holes, and those other Holes!

MB is stamping VIN numbers on major body parts.
I wonder if there is one on trunk lid.
Worth checking.

Badge delete might have been an option in 2012. It comes and goes.
