VMI stands for Vehicle Master Inquiry. If the vehicle has been serviced at an M-B dealership, all the records should be on the VMI.
On the other hand, you should keep in mind that Carfax is not the "be all to end all". Carfax can only report what has been reported to them, and if the vehicle has been serviced, for example, at an Indy or a DIY'er who didn't report that service to Carfax, there may be no records.
Are there any service receipts anywhere? Also, is there any information on the Carfax that you do have as to the original owner/number of previous numbers i.e. private sale, private lease, corporate lease or fleet vehicle, rental vehicle, etc., which might explain lack of records/receipts?
Frankly, although I may be in the minority, I'd be very careful about purchasing any car with 30,000 miles that's without any records or service history.
When out on the road, it's always best to watch out for Pot holes, Sink holes, and those other Holes!
