The Eco Start/Stop is present in my 2014 E350, and I believe it is also present in the 2013 as the first year in this model. I'm sure the plan is to have it in all their vehicles, and it may already be. I understand it's a ridiculous (my word) attempt by M-B to lower gas mileage. Really?
After the car comes up to temp, it works basically as you say, but it happens more often than just at stoplights. At one outing in traffic after first purchasing the car, it shut off 5 times within a few minutes, and only starts back up after taking your foot off the brake.
Although I'm no mechanic and can't imagine that this brief, but sometimes frequent, occurrence can save that much fuel, I have to believe that it can't be that good for the engine by starting and stopping like that.
I had some passing reluctance to purchase this car, but went ahead anyway. So far, I don't regret it! As for the Eco Start/Stop, I turn it off each time I start the car. If I forget, the first time it shuts off automatically, I push the button to disengage it. If I could disable it permanently, I probably would.
When out on the road, it's always best to watch out for Pot holes, Sink holes, and those other Holes!
