When I was a kid a long time ago, the common practice was to change oil/filter every 3,000 or 3 months. In recent years, most manufacturers recommend oil changes every 10,000 and many, like most M-Bs over the past several years, have a reminder that tells you when to change, although changing every 10,000 miles doesn't really seem to need reminding.
I have come to accept the fact that every 3,000 miles is probably overkill. I'm NO mechanic, but I've always felt that 10,000 miles was too long between changes, so with all my cars over the past 15+ years, I've had it changed it every 5,000 miles. it seemed like a reasonable compromise.
I've never heard it said before, and it would never have occurred to me that changing oil more often that every 10,000 miles would actually be HARMFUL to the engine. If that's true, I've certainly learned something today!
With all respect to Noodles, does anyone else follow the 10,000 mile rule because it's harmful to change more frequently?
When out on the road, it's always best to watch out for Pot holes, Sink holes, and those other Holes!
