Talking about Midas and such, years ago, traveling with motorhome I bought W124 diesel on our way and wife drove it behind.
While in Tennessee we took Mercedes for sightseeing and serpentine belt broke.
Huge local MB dealership had big selection of MB T-shirts, big selection of MB golf clubs, MB watches but did not stock serpentine belt for my MB, so I was forced to take the car to Midas, or such, that did have belts and shop time to replace it.
They would not allow me into the service bays, but via a window I was observing senior mechanic scratching his head under hood of MB, later joined by lead-man and later by shift supervisor.
So after about 1 hr they gave me the car with slipping belt and a story that my tensioner is going bad.
Being that late Friday afternoon I took the car and in search for a campground had to swap discharged battery in MB.
Next morning I open the hood, took car manual and discovered that the belt was misrouted and instead ca 170 degree wrap on main puller, had only 60 degree, what did not give enough friction to power alternator.
Took me about 10 minutes to correct the screw up.
Everybody makes a mistakes and with complexity of those cars, even dealers do screw ups, but once you take it to Midas, Jiffy-Lube or such, you are asking for it.
