C55 alternator or battery

2006 C55
Car was running great then this morning it wouldn't start or turnover at all. Had a hard time getting it to crank even with a portable jump. But got it started. Idled fine with or without headlights on. But hard acceleration was sluggish up in the higher RPM's. revved hard in park and it would sort of bog a bit above 3500 RPM's like it wasn't getting enough fuel. Then shut I down and battery was dead. My question is, could this be just the battery? If the alternator is fine and the battery is bad, would it bog when putting a heavy load on the motor with acceleration or is this much more likely the alternator? Thanks in advance for the help. Great forum and I've learned a lot just by reading through posts.

It takes a bit more of troubleshooting to make a final conclusion on interlocked items, but dead battery is dead battery.
Try to charge it and than do the load test.
In the lack of load tester, you can display the voltage (most of the cars can have it on the cluster) and then turn the headlights and defroster on to observe voltage change.
If the battery holds above 12v, than try to start the engine and observe charging voltage.
