Looking at my first Merc (95 E-420) and need some advice
I have a chance to pickup a 1995 E-420 with 90K for almost nothing locally. It's a super clean documented garage kept one owner car with all service records where it was serviced since new from the dealer.
I have been driving an old mildly modded V-90 Volvo for many years that I love but is now high in miles and I am beginning to have to regularly spend more $ to keep going than I like. Frankly this old E-420 right now doesn't drive and handle anywhere close to my Volvo but with that 4.2 V8 it is a potential real screamer and the build quality looks close to the Volvo. Will you guys give me a heads up on these and a heads up in particular on what to look out for on this one before I jump?
Also what can be done on these to sharpen up the handling some as my Volvo really thrashes the Merc in the corners. First order is to get rid of the 15's and the little bitty tires on the 420 and that alone should help a LOT but what else. Also did these cars come with Nivomats?? My Volvo was rare that it didn't and I'm thinking here that these might have used that system and I don't care for it at ALL.
I do most of my on work on the Volvo but have absolutely no experience with a Merc so need some advice here before I jump.
