Smart Key wont turn and no power to vehicle

Hi There,

I have a 1999 C230 Kompressor. A couple days ago I drove and then parked my car. A day later I went to drive the car again but the smart key physically will not turn positions in the ignition.

The car does not appear to have any power. The dome, break, emergency lights dont come on. The seat belt and open door warning does not go off.

The day before this happened the car alarm went off for seemingly no reason. A few days prior I noticed that when I used to remote to lock the car doors the head lights did not flash showing the car was responding to the remote. I am not certain but I still think the remote was locking the door.

We want to be able to at least pull out the battery but we cant even do that. I have not been able to open the trunk with it.

Thank you in advance for any insight you may have!

I drive E class, but Mercedes usually install mechanical lock on trunk as well.
It is quite common that the mechanism - not used for years will freeze, but several sprays of WD40 inside and exercising usually will make the tumbler turn.

You have a plastic cover ½ way along the fender on the inside under the hood, lift that panel and you will see a charging connection, just hook a charger up to it and the remote will function again to release the trunk.
