Lightbulb 2006 7g electro plate coding

Can anyone throw any light on a problem that a friend of mine has please.

The electro plate failed after he had the car for 7 days, the dealer (not MB) gave the car to their specialist. They ordered the electro plate and were told by the Mercedes parts man that it would come coded to the car. The plate arrived and it was found that the plate had not been coded, further more they also could not code it. The car was sent to a Mercedes dealer and they reported back saying that they could not code it either.

They said that under these circumstances the electro plate and the valve block would have to be purchased together, they said that when you cannot code them you have no reverse and some forward gears.

Can anyone throw any light on this subject please, I thought that back in 2006 the plate and the valve block where 2 separate things entirely.

Thank you.

Malcolm

It is possibly a mismatch. The new electro plate may not be 100% compatible with the valve body and as a result they won't be able to code it.
At the shops where I have seen 7g shifting problems resolved they have always installed the entire assembly new from MB and then coded it to the car.

I can't say for sure that the mismatch is what is going on, but I have heard of it a couple of times due to the fact that both parts had numerous revisions.

Thank you this would fit in with the 211 thread where the car has very bad jerking changes after the plate only was changed, and the only remedy there is to replace the plate and valve block. I saw there as well that they had coding problems.
