Replacement windshield

I got a crack in the windshield of my 2013 E350 Coupe. Due to a recent claim with my wife's car, I will pay out of pocket and not file an insurance claim. What's the deal as far as a windshield ordered through the dealer vs. a generic auto glass shop?
Thanks.

I replaced one on 1998 E class this year. $199 for US made glass with rain sensor replaced on my driveway.
Used the same guys a year earlier for my Superduty glass - $120
Check your craigslist.

Just wondering about the difference between a windshield from the MB dealership vs. those sold by the glass shops. Quality? Cost?

Some can be hard to program the rain sensor, plus some cars have antennas in the front screen, so care needed. once changed its better to have the rain sensor re calibrated, or they can do funny things.

Also follow the WIS instructions for measurements.

Thanks. I had an issue with the rain sensor on my VW R32 a few years ago. The glass shop had to change to another windshield but didn't charge me for it.

television, would you have instructions for re-calibrating the rain sensor? Windshield was replaced on my 2005 S-class and the sensor has been wacky since.

This can only be done on STAR, the are no other instruction for doing this, it took me 7 tries to do it on my 230.

I have to re set the ones on my 216 as they never stop sometimes, when the rain sensor fails to work the system reverts to a timer wipe.

My rain sensor did not need any calibration after glass replacement.
The reputable aftermarket glass is as good as OEM. My glass has no "Made in ..." print, but it is labelled by reputable British company. I did have W210 in the past, where PO put aftermarket glass and even you could not see directly any flaws, after couple of minutes your eyes would start itching.
