Yeah, living in CA I tend to forget about rust on the cars.
But again, all 3 liters engines that made it to US do have high marks, with only issue cast 14 heads on models from 1980's. Even cast 14 is not that bad. I replaced head gasket on one of those at almost 300k miles and beside the gasket everything was in perfect order.

Interesting! I contacted the owner for more info and pics and I'll see what he says. I would still love to hear other people opinions regarding the truck because I'm totally unsure of wether to buy or not :/

Sure looks like a 603 engine to me. I've good one in a 1990 W126. Has 252k miles (400 km), no problems. Dam good engine for a G wagon, I'd buy it in a minute, but that's me.

603 engine in US is rated for 140 HP, this one is 174, what would be power found in 606 engine with intercooler.
So whatever is in this G, it never made it to America.

G wagens have been desirable vehicles for at least 30 years.
Obviously the economical models with diesels back from 1980's were replaced by luxury cars with pimped V8 under the hood, not to mention 6x6 model.
Personally I would love to have it for the price in California.
Right, dream on.
If that G wagon were here in California it would go for insane money on Ebay.

I don't understand why they are worth so much in the states? Here is Europe you can get them for pretty cheap, it's not anything special. This one was on sale earlier this year, if I could find one exactly like it (same year, auto transmission, good condition,e.t.c) I would buy it in a minute.

Mercedes G 500 autom., 103.000 km, 1999., odli?an, 18.500 EUR, 1999 god.

I recently came across a 2003 G500 with 150k miles for $33,000. I am not sure how much a 2003 like that would cost in Europe.
There was another 2003 with 62k miles for $37,000.

Thats actually not that bad, I just came across a 2001 with 360k on it for 26k euros, that is in croatia though (price is wayy out of line). In Germany they are cheaper.

I'm still on my search for the perfect G... just waiting for the right year and price

U.S. spec and Euro spec ratings are seldom the same on any given engine. It would not be difficult to have a 174 hp 603 engine simply by increasing rail pressure slightly. It would make sense in a heavy G. I've never seen or even heard of a diesel G offered in the states, too bad in my opinion.
