CLK 430 Smart key problems

I have a 2002 CLK 430 that has two smart keys. One key now locks/unlocks but won't work in the ignition and the other works in the ignition but won't lock/unlock. Any suggestions? Mahalo from the Big Island of Hawaii.

Were both keys working at for all functions at one time or is one of the keys a new one?

In the one where the key will not work in the ignition, it should be the transponder coil broken off,,, you can buy a key on Ebay and transfer the coil as in picture 1

In the key that will not unlock the doors the batteries could be flat in the key, and pressing a button while pointed into a camera would prove this.

It all depend how much you value your time.
I recall DIY pictorial how to resolder the coil in W210 section.
Personally I am only waiting for an excuse to get new chrome key as I think $180 is worth the looks. Too bad none of 4 smart keys we have for wife car failed.

television: You called it exactly. Replaced battery in key #1 and now it's fine. Dissected key #2 and the transponder coil is broken. The coil is broken off in such a manner that it will be almost impossible to resolder. I guess we'll call the dealer and then bend over.

The coil has snapped,, buy a key for $30 on ebay, give it to a guy that repairs TV sets, he will within minutes take the coil off and re solder to your key.

Now one thing that cannot be soldered is the end of the coil as the solder pad comes off, so just apply a tiny bit of hot glue,,, instant glue is not very good for this.

If you wish, post it to me in the UK and I will fit one for you.
