Do you have your Benz serviced at a dealership?

Just a curious question... which I suppose applies mostly to out-of-warranty MBs.

Do you have your Benz serviced and repaired at an MB dealership, using an independent, or try to shade tree it yourself?

My cars are all 3 or 4 years old when I buy them, the 216 came with a free B service, so I drove the 3oo miles to have it done.

The CPS failed and I rang Moblo,,, I tin pot non mercedes garage came out to pick the car up, I said no thanks and bought a CPS and popped it in my self, so now back to my normal indie.

Just blocks from my home is a MB factory authorized service center that is not a dealer. They do not sell new cars at all. I've gone there, gone to independents and done work myself. I've found the MB factory authorized shop does the best work - this one anyway, not sure about the rest of them.

These days I don't have the time to do much work myself.

Mercedes dealerships in Canada are generally good but expensive. Labor costs of indies are cheaper but problem is they get parts from the delaerships which are a lot more expensive than US online stores. Of course, I am comparing genuine MB parts.

One advantage of the dealerships is they have all the parts. They have all the right replacement bolts, clips, etc. One time I went to my indie to replace a tie rod , I bought the parts from the dealership but had to go back again to get a bolt!

I have only taken my cars to the dealer for alignment. They do a better job than any indy shop I have seen.

Only ones that are under warranty and they only go in for warranty work. So far I have not had to use it on any car except the van. My indi shop charges $80 per hour in upstate NY to work on anything Euro. My indi shop on long Island charges a bit more but still way cheaper when compared to MB Dealers in LI. The shop I use down in FL is a small shop called German Cars SRQ and I also use a small indi shop in Venice.

Oil Changes(A/B Service) are something a good shop can do or you can DIY. I have never came across a issue that either I or my shop could not take on. With life being more busy now then ever I find myself no time to even bother waiting for a oil change anymore. When I do have the time and I can DIY I just get parts online or from the dealer if needed.

A indi shop can do just of good of a job as a dealer can in many cases.

I use all three. I also like the free roadside service, which I used last October 800 miles from home at Sears Imports in Minneapolis. Fast great service and repair on a SATURDAY!

We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Nature's inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide...I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that.
