Fly is interesting guy. He seems to be well educated, yet very often is narrow-minded.
I do own 2 Superduty trucks and still have hitch on our Mercedes sedan.
Even my Superduty make 14 mpg, they are no match for 30 mpg sedan, not even saying that in MB I get to the destination much faster.
Beside light trailer, I am using with MB I do have load platform, that would allow me to take lawnmower to help friends.
Coming back to the wagon hitch, I did not check W210 wagons for mount, but looking at the instruction, the pieces of angle-liner are going inside the cargo area and are bolted to, or close to the uni-frame rail. Meaning I don't even see where you can add a plate.
Maybe I am assuming too much without actually seeing the car, but again, the floor mounted hitch in our sedan works just fine.
It is not exactly floor mounted, as the floor plate take most of horizontal forces. For vertical forces the hitch has bolts on the rear wall.
