I went from many years of BMWs to MB.

The real deal breaker is the run flat tires - harsh ride/'short life/high cost/lack of availibity. We often tour in the west and could easily be 2-3 days from a replacement tire. No spare tire does not work for us. The wheel well on my C300 will also accommodate a full size wheel and tire.
The Mercedes has more comfortable seats for us.
I also prefer the V6 to the hot running (life?) turbos. Although - the BMW engines are very smooth.
I believe that the BMWs will get better gas mileage.
My 4 Matic handles very, very, well.

I don't really believe that a 5 minute test drive will tell you much - see if you can get a test drive of 30 - 45 minutes. Maybe in a loaner car.

Good luck.

Agree with the run flat tire assessment above.
We have a 2011 328i X-drive that improved dramatically with regular tires.
The newer BMWs also have that annoying stop/start feature, and somewhat vague steering.
Many BMW drivers wouldn't go newer than 2011 in the 3 series; lots of online discussion.
I drove a C350 before buying the CPO BMW last summer -- close call, indeed.
BMW handles better, faster steering, nicer exterior.
I like the Mercedes interior better and the seats were more comfortable for sure.
I agree that a longer test drive is the only way to know for sure; these are both great cars and you'll not go wrong with either one.

So I have a budget of around $45k (USD).

So I've been checking a lot, and can't decide, 2013:

Benz c350 or a BMW 3 Series?

I don't really care about the 0-60, but quality and performance matters to me. So does the interior, the driving, comfort and looks.

Which would you go for? And if there is a better car, please suggest so.

Thanks!
I have a 2013 BMW 320i with the Premium package, and the 8 spd auto. I believe BMW has stuck a balance between sport and luxury with this car. The difference between the 320 and 328i is HP 180 to 240 (328i.) However, the 8 spd tranny really makes the best of the HP of the 320i, I also get 36 on highway with the car.

Bimmer people bitch about the steering, but in everyday driving I don't see as a problem, also the stop/start feature at first is odd, but having my car since Oct, it doesn't bother me so much.

Comfort, I drive between Phoenix and San Diego often and never had a problem on comfort, I do not have the sport package but the ride is your typical German ride, firm without your filling falling out.

You can pick up a new 320i with Premium, lighting package, and Nav for under 39K. BMW has been very aggressive in the deals of the 320i.

I like the looks of the new C class, but over all I liked the BMW better. I really don't think you can go wrong with either car, since it's a personal preference.
