No switch to shut it down, but a low oil light should have come on. How many liters low was it?
If you can access to a boroscope or find a shop that has one pull the spark plugs and look for cylinder wall damage. The engine may have gotten close to seizing up due to the lack of oil pressure.
You can also drain the oil into a clean container and then pour it through a fine paper filter like a coffee maker filter and look for metal. Inspection of the oil filter can also reveal if metal is present in the oil. If it is then it is not looking good for the engine.
