a solution for leaking cam plugs is here
I have a 2006 C350 with the all too familiar and inevitable leaking cam plug dilemma.
I finally tired of buying these poorly designed and uselss thermoplastic plugs with the thermoplastic elastomer moulded inot them and have designed a two part aluminum plug with a standard metric o ring. assembling the oring is a breeze along with inserting the inner part of the metal plug (just like you would the original Mercedes plug). Once in position, all that is necessary is to screw the outer metal portion of the plug down until tightly onto the inner plug and voila, it's in place. The secret is the axial compression of the o ring between the three metal surfaces begins to compress and subsequently expand the oring, gripping the inner bore of the cam plug hole.
These should never require replacing again however if it's needed, it can be removed, a new o ring installed and you are ready to insert and use again.
I manufactured a few of these and of course making a few is an expensive method however if I get enough interest on this site and anywhere else, I can get the manufacture cost down and estimate selling each plug (including the o ring) for $7-8
Please do let me know if anyone has interest in these and I can begin getting manufacturing these a reality and solve many a problem we all see in aging Mercedes!
