Question EPS Inoperable. See Owners Manual?

Hi, there. I am happy to have found this forum. I tried searching the posts for my answer but came up empty. This is my first post. I have learned a lot by reading other problems and appreciate all the thoughtful answers.

I have a 2007 Mercedes E350 4Matic with 87,000 miles on it. Earlier today, about 10 minutes into my ride, I got a yellow exclamation point with an error message: "ESP inoperable. See owners manual." Read the whole manual and there was nothing about his warning message. Does this mean I need new brakes? Last month, mechanic said diagnostics said brakes will most likely need replacing in a couple of months. Is this what the error message means? I have extended warranty. When I got to my destination 20 minutes after seeing light, I turned off car. When I got back in car, no more error message. Any ideas?

ESP is "ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM". In my experience, it might be the steering angle sensor that has a glitch and will need to be replaced. The only way to verify it is by scanning the vehicle with a Star Diagnostic machine used at the dealers. There might be a code in ESP saying to check steering angle sensor and in the steering column control module you might have a fault code stating steering angle sensor defective. If you do, the steering angle sensor will have to be replaced and initialized. Labor time is about 0.7 to 1.0 hours to perform.
