It looks like this just puts your iphone icons on your car screen. Maybe i'm missing something. If my car doesn't have nav, would I even have a large screen in the dash?
I have nav and I can bluetooth my android phone music through my car speakers. I receive texts on my car screen. I make calls through bluetooth.

I'm sure it's somewhat handy to have this, but I don't see it as evolutionary. ???

This must be based on the Mirror Link standard. The industry initiative originally came from Symbian/Nokia and the feature has been available "for ages" for Symbian products. Unfortunately Microsoft still does not have this capability on their Windows OS but Android should have it too.

There was a large press release in 2012 where Apple announced it was working something like 8-9 auto makers to get the iOS into vehicles. The list of customers was impressive.
Nine auto makers partner with Apple for 'Eyes Free' Siri support

Not to be outdone Google is muscling in the action and it will be interesting to see where it all ends up, but IMO the competition makes the consumer the winner because both the Android and Apple i)OS are better than anything I have seen in a car telematics package so far.

We wrote up a little overview regarding the CarPlay System as well and the position Mercedes is in with Google and Apple fighting for this market space. It will be great for Mercedes-Benz owners to really benefit from both enterprise tech players trying to innovate over one another for the ultimate integrated car experience.

Has there been any confirmation that CarPlay will definitely be on 2015 vehicles?

So, if you order a new vehicle this summer / fall, with the premium 1 Comand radio upgrade, will it have CarPlay?

Or will CarPlay just be available in 2015?

Also would this replace the drive kit upgrade?
