2007 ml350 seat heater fire this is what mercedes has offered

My 2007 ml350 with 72,000 miles had the driver's side heated seat burn through the leather, my son's coat and scorched his shirt. I was with him and there was a terrible smell and smoke, before we could get safely pulled over.

Mercedes has offered to replace the leather.

The service people at local dealership have stated that the new seat cover will definitely look different. They say due to age, but could be quite a difference according to them.

Mercedes offered to "give" us $2,000 toward a new vehicle or $500 toward a used vehicle or replace the seat as stated above. They said make our best trade and then they would pay the amounts above. So the trade is up to us and dealership. They are offering $13K for my 2007 ml350, 72K miles, nav, electric sunroof, 4matic, other extras.

We feel good that they are willing to do anything for a 2007, but we also feel backed into a corner regarding trading. We feel sure if the leather does not match after replacing, we would never be able to sell/trade the 2007 with any other dealership.

Lastly, the 2007 has been an annoying vehicle to own. Mostly, it has constant headlights and other driving/parking light replacements. There is constantly one bulb or another out. Seemed we had the same problem, to a lesser degree, with our 2004 e-class. It also seems like everytime it gets cold tire monitor comes on. Check oil (check at next fueling) has also come on from time to time when vehicle has run for a couple of hours at a time, even though oil was freshly changed.

We are looking at a 2011 ml350 4matic, bluetec. Any bad/good to report.

Thanks for reading as I go through my thought processes.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but why was your son wearing a skirt?

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
