A curious thread as I have an 05 CL65 and lost the only key I had to it. All I had to do was bring the title and my ID to a dealer and they sent photo copies of that for my order of 3 of the smart keys.

If the person had the title and an ID, I can't imagine why they would require he bring the car? Having possession of a car doesn't prove ownership. Having the title in your name and an ID does.

It was a forum mystery for long time till Diesel Benz explained that if you order REPLACEMENT key, the dealer needs to reprogram it to replace the lost one. This way the finder of old key will not drive away in your car.
NEW keys are programmed at central location in Texas and dealer does not need to see the car.

They still need to see the car in the UK, unless you are very well known to them. The only reason they ask for the car when the key comes is to delete the lost/broken one, but this is not some free service and cost over here some £70 or more for the 10 min job.

In US they charge 1/2 hr, what is $75 in CA.
I guess it is 10 minutes for key programming and 20 minutes or $50 for carwash.

Please do not remind me of the car wash

It was bucketing down with rain, the car was in for a free service, they were 3 hours late, and I had 300 miles to go in the rain storm, yet they said they always wash the car, I begged them to not do it to no avail at all

At least you can do 300 miles in 3 hr.
It is more like 6 hr in US, if you are lucky.

Yes, that would be annoying, like when the dealer sprays in some air freshner or scent without even asking. I would get quite unhappy if they washed our CL65, although it would be fine with our R350. So far, I've avoided dealers for service on the CL65.
