Weird Test Drive
Today I went to my local dealer to test drive a 2010 ML350 Blutec. When I arrived it was warming up, I and the salesman hopped in and were headed down the street when it lost a bit of power, but i stepped on the gas continued 2 minutes further when we noticed it was emitting blue smoke from the rear, I pulled over, and we decided to walk back to the dealer.
In an email later that afternoon, the salesman wrote:
"Last week they took the ML in for service and the technician put fuel conditioner in the tank. The next step is then to fill the tank for it to mix with the conditioner. The tank did not get filled and the blue smoke was the conditioner burning off. No issue with that happening."
My question is: could there be permanent damage? Should I still consider buying this vehicle in light of this accident. I guess I am concerned with a chronic problem with a diesel engine. If I bought it, I would get CPO warranty to 160k (current mileage is 99k) but I do not want the hassle of visiting the dealership where it is 60 miles away in another city.
