How important is the first oil change?

I'm looking to get a certified car. I've been watching the internet and have seen a lot of cars that were leases and had the first oil change at 18,000 or 20,000 miles.

Do you think this is something to worry about?

The FSS on my older models usually gives me 13-14k intervals, so the lessee were probably stretching the system.
But if the dealer is giving the warranty, I would not worry too much.
Still I would ask the dealer for explanation.

FSS in the US is also set to be more conservative in the US compared to Europe. For a 2006 car the predicted mileage limit (shown just after service) used to be 25 000 km (about 15.6k miles).

One of the first service intervals on my 221 was about 29 000 km (about 18 000 miles) and I believe the maximum FSS could have allowed was 19 000 miles. This was all according to what the cluster suggested. Since then I have not driven enough to hit the mileage limit but the two year time limit instead.

Euro cars have changed to a simplified service program and now have a one year service time limit.

I second Kajtek1, if the car was driven gently, the mileage would not be bad at all (and you probably prefer a car that was driven gently instead of one that asked first service before 10 000 miles) but better still to ask the dealer.
