Ex-Fed, thank you for the PDF files! Right on the module location "bingo" Have a slightly different part # A 004 542 39 18 but now I can go on.
You may find the chain of events of this problem interesting? We recently purchased this MB from a dealer "as is" When we got all the way up to Bedford, Ohio from Chester, Illinois this vehicle supposedly developed the ESP and ABS light on and we decided to accept it with a price 5k under bluebook. Got it home and inspected it and knew the dealer only changed the oil and one speed sensor according to records. I checked and yes, was true. It needed front brakes and during inspection I checked and cleaned the (not replaced speed sensor on the front) (did not bother with rear as pads looked good) The sensor had a light coat of rust on it and I use a long stem magnet to pull any rust out of the sensor seat/tube. Got all done and wanted to test drive again, esp and abs were still unavailable and as I was moving from a stop, forward I felt grabbing and an awful sound which was the worn front brakes engaging. So I have had it parked and doing research for about a week now. Cleaning that one sensor seemed to have unbalanced the system somehow since I had made no other changes and had no problems getting it home over 700 miles were put on it with that same esp and abs inoperative light on (solid) We are giving it a good going over such as replacing both batteries since there is no record even on the battery itself as to it's age plus it test a bit on the low end but we never expected this possible module problem to occur. Read that a poor battery can cause some issues here so have to replace and test run it again before we get the yaw module. I maybe using the wrong tester to get the codes showing this problem because I only get a code showing the EGR needs attention (line may have to be cleaned out) Other than that, great vehicle, got 27mpg at one point of the trip retrieving the vehicle!
