Changed the starter on my '96 E300D yesterday and now am getting ETS warning, check engine light and hard shifting with all gears. I disconnected the battery for the repair and have not read the DTC's yet. Will do that when I get home.
If you read OBDII codes that's as far as you can go without buying something like a Carsoft or a Star clone. I don't remember ever hearing about an OBDII/CAN reader.
I looked around and found that Harbor Freight sells an OBDII/CAN reader for about $150.00. It has a PC interface and memory to store codes and is currently on sale for $109.00.
