need help finding a good diesel 92-99

got recommended to look at 92-95 300D, 5 cylinder 2.5 l with under 150k miles

saw today (well recommended) 99 E300TD, 6 cyl, 3.0 l.

Couple of questions on both

- highway mileage at 70 mph?
- relative reliability (know they're both good cars, want owners' comments)
- pros and cons? With winter tires, how are they in the winter?
- any other comments/thoughts

I have a '91 300D, 280,000 miles on the car and 145,000 on rebuilt engine (I bought the car with a blown engine, they had run it out of oil). This has been a really nice driving car, about 32 MPG at 70, does good with winter tires.

I have had the older 300Ds and they were good but stepping up to the 90's with the 2.5 Turbo is a whole other world. Excellent heat, A/C, solid as a rock.

Both engines will deliver about the same mpg and reliability, but the 2.5 has about 120 hp and is just adequate for grades, while 3 liter DT with 174 HP can be consider sport car.
1999 also has traction and ESP with more airbags, so safety is quite different as well.

I have a very good 1999 E300 Turbo diesel and also a 1990 350SDL. Would be willing to sell either or both. They are both reliable daily drivers, the '99 has more power and better mpg. Thinking about buying a new E250 BlueTEC, so that's why I'm willing to sell the 2 older diesels. PM me if interested.

Best of the best diesel for that era would be the 1995 E300D. It had the sturdy and reliable w124 body and the newer OM 606 engine. None of the messed up computers and electronics, build quality was high, and I was able to get 680 miles on a tank cruising speed on the highways.

I looked at the W210 cars and the decline in quality was palpable compared to the W124. Talking to mechanics at the shop, they were not complimentary toward the 210 either. Not that they complained about being kept busy. To them, they were a can of worms nobody in his right mind would want. Better to look at the CDI from their perspective, as it was not as trouble prone from the start.

Even cdi are more advanced and fuel saving engines, in Europe the W210 with 3 liter diesel turbo is the most loved.
Suppose cdi driven on autobahns like to burn pistons at higher mileage, while the 1995 E300D simply has no power to keep with traffic.
