Exclamation 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300CD Turbo Oil Change

Hey Guys!

I just went to get my oil changed, and for non synthetic, the guy quoted me over $125. Can you help me understand this? He said the oil was $9/quart more then normal oil, and the canister was $24 more then the base price of $39 for an oil change.

I felt like he was trying to pull a fast one, so I walked out. Any input would be helpful.

Car is a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300 CD Turbo

Rip Off

At $8/qt you should get synthetic oil. The engine holds a little less than 8 quarts. The oil filter is in the $10 to $12 range.

This is a simple job that you should consider doing yourself. With the use of an inexpensive vacuum oil extractor, you can do the entire job from the top of the engine compartment without even crawling under the car and not spill a drop.

For a diesel would he be better of with the 5w40 ESP Mobil? Or is that just for the newer diesels?

The ESP is for newer diesels with particulate filters.
ESP = Emission System Protection

In the OM617 use Chevron Delo 15W40 or one of the
Synthetic 5W40 diesel oils in very cold climates.

As mentioned, this is a very easy DIY job.

Yes, if you have the room to do oil changes buy a Mityvac 8 qt. oil extractor. It will pull the oil up thru your dipstick real quick when the oil is nice and warm. Just remember to buy a good German filter, replace the o-rings on the rod that is inserted into the center of the filter if they are not new. Most shops will not do the o-ring replacement. Delo is good oil for your climate.
