Cali Car purchase confusion
SO, I have been poking around trying to figure out just how stupid I would have to be to attempt to purchase a car in California and bring it back to Washington.
I am looking at private party sales of R107 that would be used as parts/donor car. I do want it in running condition and safe enough for an 800 mile trip back north. I do not plan of registering the thing, but will want title.
My confusion is in how the Kalifornia system makes it difficult to figure out just how many hoops needed and how deeply I need to contort myself to get the car out of their state.
It looks like there is a smog test form, a title change form, donation of left kidney form, exemplar of gametes, DNA requisitions, surrender of first born, giving away of license plates, public declaration of adoration of a liberal/socialist cult of personality, and having to do all of this in person before a magistrate.
Then I am not sure what gymnastics I need to perform to remove the vehicle from the grip of CADMV. If I do not want to pay them taxes, register the thing in Cali, and own it outside of the borders of that state, am I able to drive the thing? Do I have to hire a hauler to take it to the border?
Am I just better off never even thinking of entering the State of California looking for a car?
