Intermittent leaking rear main seal 300D
I've been getting a decent sized oil spot on my driveway overnight when I park with the nose pointed up the incline. It's a moderately steep driveway. When I park on my level garage slab, it doesn't drip a drop oil. From below the car, I can see oil residue at the back of the block / transmission joint. No oil seems to be coming from the valve cover. It only leaks when parked on an incline, so I'm not planning to repair it at this point.
It has a used motor with 76K miles. I wonder if the used motor sat on a pallet for a number of years and dried out the rope rear main seals. It's only got a couple thousand miles on it since it was installed. Can these seals come back to life and seal back up?
