Tricky Coolant Leak

New to the forum and it's my first Benz. I'm having trouble finding an intermittent coolant leak on the passenger side thermostat / auxiliary water pump area. It will leak out half a reservoir container when I'm not looking, won't drip a drop when I'm searching for it. I see drips on the alternator, area around the auxiliary water pump and thermostat housing. Not a lot, like it's really leaking, but just little droplets. One time I saw some coolant drips on the bottom of the bottom radiator hose.

I've heard the short 2" rubber hose at the thermostat is a usual suspect, but as I recall it only seemed to have droplets in that area when I checked.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

On that side of the car your locations for leaks are limited. I would just replace all three rubber coolant hoses, and the thermostat housing O-ring. Also replace any coolant hoses going to the carbs / intake manifold.

Looks like it was actually coming from the auxiliary water pump, but it was only sporadically leaking, which made it tough to diagnose.

The good news is that it's an easy and an inexpensive fix.

yes. I'm thinking of putting the 5/8" copper elbow bypass in and pulling the auxiliery water pump and trying to see about rebuilding it when I get some time. I've searched the threads a little, but didn't see any information on where to get new gaskets and seals for it? are they something special, or just get something that fits?

Turns out I had two leaks. They were coming from the auxiliary water pump and the upper connection of the lower radiator hose. Tightened that up and no more leaks.

Hope this helps someone down the road.
