ML320 1998 jumping splines moving from stop

It only occurs when the vehicle is moved under load. It sounds like a spline on a shaft jumping. Can anyone suggest where to start tearing the truck down? Is there a place that is more likely to wear in the front than the other? Worst case scenario its the front differential but my search doesn't show problems with the front pumpkin. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. It doesn't do it if I accelerate with brakes applied

Check the 163 forum for 'torsion bar'.
The other thread where you asked this question had good starting points for diagnosis.
