Love sixties/seventies vintage European cars - MB, BMW, Saab 96/99/900, Volvo 122, Rover P4/P5/2000, Jag XJ6, Citroen DS19, etc. I am a tired of driving Toyotas and would like to get something interesting. However the reliability and cost of repairs for the Brits is a bit scary. I have driven a LOT of cars, and have really narrowed my search to that vintage MB, BMW, Saab or Volvo.
As stunning as they are, I am leaning away from the W108s, although I do like the fintails. I particularly like the W114 and W123 (sedan and wagon) series cars. I am currently looking at a 1966 220D, a 1979 240, and a 1985 300, and have looked at 250s and 280s. They are nice looking, the build quality is good and the mechanicals are pretty bulletproof, as far as I can tell.
I have never driven a diesel (other than a 1980s Olds (yech)), so I don't know what to expect in terms of smell/smoke, cold weather starting, etc. I do know that they are slow, but that they run forever.
