another vin question
I'm replacing the radiator hoses on my '89 300E and the vendor is saying that the lower hose will only work "from chassis A621369". I assume that means the hose only fits from that chassis number forward but I don't yet know.
I've read that serial numbers are assigned sequentially on an assembly line that may include several different models. My serial number is B031807 which I believe means that the car was assembled in Sidenflingen, since it falls within the A...E range. I'm wondering why there would be five letters for one plant though. Could it be because they have five assembly lines?
Which leads to my question. Does A621369 precede or follow B032807? To my thinking, A6.. precedes B0.. but I don't know whether the alpha character is part of the sequence or not and I'd be interested in other interpretations.
