1 thinner doesn't necessary means less rows of cooling so that is worth checking.
2 the cooling system on those cars is design for towing 5000 lb trailers on Sahara desert, or driving to ski resort 15,000 feet up in the Alps.
I replaced radiator on my 1998 model about 6 years ago and Behr is so efficient that I drive with engine fan removed for 4th year and even on 114F deserts don't have overheating problem.
Locally we do have shops who re-core original radiators. I had the dilemma on my vintage Prevost and local shop did new core for 1/2 cost what special order from Prevost would cost me.
That was all metal radiator, when with plastic sides it gets more difficult.
