Is tele aid/mbrace factory installed hardware on a 2010 r350?
The reason I ask this is because my still-with-temp-tags 2010 CPO r 350 was stolen on Wednesday from outside of my house, and upon contacting MB and euro motors in bethesda, they said that there was no account in our name and couldn't ping the vehicle to locate it, even (as i now learn) though MB offers a 3-month subscription to teleaid/mbrace (which one is for a 2010 r class with the crappy old nav?) as a part of their CPO program...anyway, I get that they can't retroactively activate an account from the original owner or activate a new account because you have to push a button in the car( sounds like crap technology to me and a bit late since it's probably spare parts by now) and we weren't made aware that the subscription option even existed when we bought the car...so, my question is: does what Mercedes mean by "option" mean that that r classes (2010) come from the factory with the telematic hardware pre-installed, and that the "option" is to activate it at the point of sale as the CPO brochure implies? Or, does it mean that when the original purchaser of the vehicle was buying it, did he/she actually have to check an options box that had Mercedes install the hardware at the factory and then the owner begins the trial subscription period as my dealer stated today? My thought was that all Mercedes came ready to go with either tele aid (like my wife's old E500) out of the box, and all the dealer had to do was activate it, which is what is inferred in the CPO brochure...the CPO brochure clearly states that all Mercedes will get a three month trial activated at POS by the dealer...they fail to mention(and I hope it's wrong), that original owner must have selected the teleaid/mbrace option when configuring the new vehicle....my dealer is telling that this was not an installed option....trying to determine whether he is parsing his words to cover his ass, and intentionally confusing terms: pre-wired and standard on new (2010) r classes versus the actual activation of an account plus checking the box on the new car options list, which I think he is saying is "optional"....anyway, any clarification as to what comes out of the factory, what is standard, what is supported, and what is in the CPO regs for 2010 r350s would be greatly appreciated, Our car has been gone for 3 days now, so there's almost no chance that we will get it back and will most likely next have to battle the insurance companies for a check, but I at least would like to get some closure on the standard versus optional bit because I don't trust euro motorcars in Bethesda as far as I can throw them....yes Euro, I just called you out...overpriced cars and absolute crap post-sales customer service...had 4 BMWs before I had to get a legit third row car for a growing family...never experienced anything like the BS from Mercedes...I miss my M5 and that locating the damn thing wasn't 'optional'.
