81 300D Won't Crank in Cold Weather
I'm having an issue with my 300D when it's freezing temp or below, typically after leaving my car in the cold all night. When I turn the key to pos. 1, the glow light comes on , the glow circuit engages, but when I turn the key to the start position, I get nothing. Barely a click from the dash, but thats it. I've tested for power at the starter solenoid, and there's nothing when the key is in the start position.
This problem only occurs when it's cold, any other time the 300D starts strong every time without trouble. To get around this, I'll cycle the glow circuit 3 or 4 times, and use a screwdriver to manually engage the starter, and she fires right up.
Any thoughts? Starter relay? (Or the 2 silver cubes above the DS wheel well?) Is there any way to test the starting circuit to narrow down the issue? My biggest problem is 99% of the time everything works fine, and I can't replicate the problem without my car being freezing temp. Thanks for the help!!
