I believe this case is solved but for future readers of this thread, the HW fingerprint part is not part of an original Star diagnosis setup, this is something a Chinese seller adds to prevent copies of their hard drives. This copy protection can be removed easily. Some use a USB dongle for the same thing, that too can be removed.
The LanID from starutilities is a synthetic ID that is created when Star software is installed the first time to a computer. The EWA NET "Lan-ID" is actually the MAC address of the active network interface, quite confusing to call that Lan-ID as at starutilites.
By the way, one should try to avoid this virtual machine approach if at all possible. In most cases the laptop is anyway assigned for the diagnosis tool only and a native win xp setup can be used.
