Well, I think the trend is now to haggle more online. Though I have no experience myself doing this. I just feel uncomfortable offering a good bit of money on a car that I have not seen and touched.

In person. Last car purchased was at a private sale in Florida. In the driveway going back and forth on price. Somewhat like on Pawn Stars...

Have some faith in the brand.
The closest Mercedes I bought was 900 miles from home, the farther 3000.
I buy diesels and those were not sold new on West Coast for last 20 years, so bringing them to California makes instant value gain.
Hard to drive the distance just for haggling, so it all has to be done online.

Always best in person but online or phone is certainly a great screening method. I think there are more dealers giving better deals online these days because of competition such as Car Max and True Car, etc.

I agree. When I bought my CLK350, the MB dealership had an internet price and a window price and the internet price was of course lower. Also, I would say to shop in an area where there are lots of competitors around. When I simply hinted to this fact, I think it put me in a better situation with the salesman.
