Moving from a MB to Subaru is not my idea of an "upgrade", but the OP does have a point about body panel rust. Hasn't MB discovered galvanizing yet? It is such a shame to see MBs on the road with rust outlining all of the body panels. I expect such from Honda, Toyota, et al, but a "Tier 1" car?

Volvo solved this ages ago, around 1993 when they galvanized both sides of the body panels. Even here in the Rustbelt of the Midwest, Volvos don't rust unless the panels have been bent in an accident.

I was looking for a cheap MB (under $5K) as an errand car, but all of them have rust!

Somewhat disillusioned...
This is a great driver's car, except for the comand center and lack of gauges.
The little gremlins come and go at will.

If nothing else, can this thread be closed. Nothing good, I'm afraid, will come of it.

Maybe some fun and steam blowing?
Klaus you need to travel to get good MB for cheap.
The $4000 W210 with DIESEL I bought last year is rust free.
But I pick it up 3000 miles from home.

I'm curious how old the OP's "rusty, old Benz" was.
