Has your dealer ever offered you a free inspection?

They do things a little differently in India, where a disgruntled ex-dealer has spilt the beans on MB by leaking confidential documents. For example, in this one they were instructed to send out letters informing customers that they had won a "free inspection" as a result of a lucky draw. During this inspection, the faulty turbocharger was changed out without the customer's knowledge, under recall.

The "free inspections" are every day event in USA
Last time I took my older MB for one, they judged driveshaft disks bad without removing the belly shields. I had enough dirt there to figure out nobody touched underbody.
My impression is that those inspections are performed from the comfort of office chair.
If in India they replaced a turbocharger for free - prize the Lord.
Sure I would like to know about it.

I took a free inspection on my 2007 c280 in Minneapolis because my trunk light was burned out (needs a special tool) I've had an indie mechanic doing my service for the last three years and thought the car was OK. The Dealer did a fairly thorough job, measured brake pads, tire treads, checked fluids etc. Said I didn't need anything. Then they offered and I accepted a Mercedes prepaid maintenance agreement (good at any dealer)that covered an A and B service and some of the stuff that comes up at the 5-7 year timeframe, $1200 worth of service (dealer prices) for $750.

It's not a bad deal if you choose a dealer who offers "free" loaner car, "free" lunch and "free" carwash like mine does.
