Hi Everyone, I tried posting this in the W209 but got nothing. Was wondering if anyone can provide some feed back on my issue?
--- I purchased a CLK500 W209 2004 with 50,000kms on the clock not so long ago. It's my first MB. It is in near perfect condition and looks like its just come from the showroom however I believe I have started to hear some sort of valve rattle / lifter noise. I can hear it best around 2000rpm. If I blip the throttle and also I can hear it if I accelerate hard. The car has an sports exhaust so I can hear much once the engine is spinning hard. I've read on some of the threads that these engines (M113 E50) should be more or less silent. Is this true? Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem with engine? I though that the oil may be getting low and not enough oil getting to the value gear. As you all know there is no dipstick and the gauge just say 'oil ok'. Should I trust this rather inaccurate measure? Would a good oil change quieten down the value gear?
I've been reading this forum for a while before I bought the car and I value all the experience offered. I'd really appreciate some feedback so if I have to take it to get serviced at least I'll be armed with some MB knowledge from MB enthusiasts.
