Replacing 96 C280 AC compressor - need oil amount

Hello,
I am ready to replace the AC compressor (and drier) in my 96 C280 (6 cylinder), but cannot find out the amount of oil to leave/put in the new compressor.

The instruction sheet with the new Denso compressor says to measure the amount of oil in the old one, but the old one leaked significantly.

Any thoughts on how to proceed? Thanks!

Eric

On my 99 ML it is on a sticker under the hood.

According to alldata depending on the compressor it is 4-5.2oz, but that sounds like too much. Usually a new Denso compressor comes with oil pre-measured for it.

Thanks Noodles

Noodles,

I have attached a Mercedes AC capacity sheet that I just found online. Not much help from the sticker as it says 1.9 lbs(!), but the attached Mercedes AC capacity sheet helped alot. You might be able to use it as well.

My compressor is the 7SB16 (page two, part way down, 3rd column) and it says 120 cc (4.06 fl oz).

Thanks again for the help! I very much appreciate it. Now to the real adventure under the hood.....

Eric

1.9 lbs is the freon.

Based on your compressor model the 4.06oz is the oil amount for a new compressor.
