'87 560SL starting problem, HELP!
1987 MB 560SL occasional starting problem. If I turn my car off after being driven for a time (5 minutes to hours) SOMETIMES it will not start until it cools off for an hour or so. When I try to start the car it will start immediately for 1 or 2 seconds then stall. Repeated attempts to start won’t even produce a sputter. After a cooling off period it will start with absolutely no problem. If when it fails to start, I remove the air filter cover and shoot starting fluid (either) into it the engine will start but only run till the starting fluid is used up. Repeated attempts (12 – 15) to start the vehicle using starting fluid was successful once. New fuel pumps were installed in this vehicle about 3 years (15,000 miles) ago. My service garage who only services German automobiles seems to have no idea what it could be and he has not been able to make the vehicle fail.
Any help you may give would REALLY be appreciated. WHubbs
