Making the switch from Lexus by December
Originally from Tampa, I am now living in Honolulu. I am on my second Lexus RX350 (after having two Acura Integras), but have decided to go with a European car for my next vehicle. Aside from the design choices that, to me, make the new Lexus RX350 completely unpalatable, I also get the chance to keep Americans employed (the Lexus vehicles sold in Hawaii are all made in Japan).
Originally, the choice was down to Mercedes or BMW. I really like the ML over the X3 and X5, even if the X3 was a little bit cheaper. Of course, I also considered the C and E class sedans, but I think I'll stick with an SUV, at least for the time being. I really like the cargo capacity in my RX, and the ML has the same space, so that's good.
I did notice a couple of things, and would like y'alls opinion. The door lock knobs appear to stick up over the door sill, even when in the locked position, or at least that's what I noticed in reviews on YouTube. Is this actually true and if so, does that bother anyone? Additionally, the spare tire in the trunk looks like one of those "doughnuts" vice a full-size spare. Is that correct? Even though I've not had to use it, one nice thing about my RX is that I have a full-size spare, albeit attached underneath the vehicle (it has to be ratcheted down).
Overall, it was difficult to choose between Mercedes and BMW. Both offer fantastic vehicles, but my wife and I both lean towards Mercedes. Regardless of which vehicle we actually end up purchasing, I think we'll be very glad that we chose Mercedes. I just can't wait until we actually make it so.
