I recently purchased a 1989 MB 560 SL with 120,000 miles on it, for a ridiculously low price. I had my doubts about it being a worthwhile investment, but later checks by my local MB dealer showed that I really "lucked out". So, knowing that the car was deemed a good buy by the dealer, I then had some basic work performed to prolong it's life, and my driving experience. Things like: motor mounts, transmission mounts, sub-frame bushings, plus fluid changes and other maintenance checks. The car needed the sun visor mounting clips replaced, and your forum was a valuable tool in that regard. One thing bothers me at the moment - I asked the dealer to consider replacing the timing chain guides and tensioner, and the dealer talked me out of it - said they had no history of problems with that issue. Your forum tells me differently, so I believe that I may have to insist on that replacement. Thank you for the information. I'm retired, and well past the age when I would tackle that kind of work, myself. The car is Arctic White with blue leather interior and a dark blue canvas top - looks new. It came with Pirelli custom wheels and almost new Michelin tires - it makes a striking appearance, and I get comments on it every where I drive it, which, right now, is my home of Dayton, Ohio.
