Hi, My name is John and I own a 85 380SL with 96k miles on it It had 85k on it when I bought it. I am semi retired and living in the Hudson valley area. Actually the Benz belongs to my wife. I gave it to her for an anniversary present about 9 years ago. It did have a number of issues with it when I first bought it but after a while we got those taken care of and for a couple of years it ran great. Currently the car streams a light grey smoke from the tail pipe and gets far worse the longer it runs, and the longer it runs the worse it gets. it is not oil smoke. I did find out that it was running so rich (flooded) that it diluted the oil to the point that the cams and cam followers were damaged and had to be replaced which I did myself. The condition of the spark plugs seem to confirm that it is running rich.
The system pressure and the control pressure are in the ball park. The warm up regulator is working and there is no obstruction in the fuel return line to the fuel tank. It appears that as the control pressure increases so does the smoke. Can anyone out there help me out?
