"She Who Must be Obeyed" Finally Likes It

If you are from the ATL or listen to syndicated talk radio, you may have listened to Neal Boortz. When referring to his wife, he frequently spoke of "she who must be obeyed".

I've managed to contribute to staying in the good graces of my current (and last) wife by discussing major purchases with her. Thus, when it became apparent that I would need a different vehicle to drive [brief background--current truck (my DD) and travel trailer are being sold] we discussed budget completely.

I then brought up the fact that I wanted a ragtop. We talked about it and she grudgingly agreed.

Then I brought up the fact that I wanted either a 3series BMW or a CLK. We talked about it some more (we have a friend with a 328i sedan that she does not particularly like) and she grudgingly agree.

We bought the CLK. During that process she went along on 2 of the test drives and actually drove it once. Throughout the process, she averred that she really didn't care, a car was just something to get around in.

Earlier today we ran a short errand. Usually we use the Fit, since it gets the best in-town mileage, but she wanted to go in the CLK. Since it was sunny (it will rain later today) she suggested we put the top down. During the drive I mentioned that I didn't think we would be taking the CLK on an upcoming weekend trip to the mountains in north GA.

What happened next was somewhat surprising--not only did she express disappointment that we might not take the CLK--she opined that she was not only glad that I got A convertible, but specifically THIS convertible--it was really "...well..nice..." (to quote her).

So now I know for sure. My "she who must be obeyed" actually thinks I made the right decision.

Best Wishes--Carl

She who must be obeyed, Rumpole's name for his wife Hilda in the series Rumpole of the Bailey. First in short stories and books, then on TV.

The first of the TV series, hope you like it.
